I took a Hippocratic Oath when I graduated dental school. And though I strive to follow all of the covenants to the best of my ability, the one covenant which always rang the loudest to me is, “I will remember that there is art to dentistry as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife or the chemist’s drug.” I love putting a smile on peoples’ faces, and since it’s my job to make it a beautiful smile, it’s twice as sweet. I love gaining the trust of a patient and putting to rest their anxieties. It’s extremely rewarding to have a patient who “hates seeing the dentist” tell me they can’t wait until the next time we see each other!
